Treatment Modalities
Acupuncture
Acupuncture involves inserting single use, sterilized needles into specific acupoints on the body. The needles stimulate the bodys energy, promoting overall wellbeing and balance. Needles are thin just a little thicker than a cats whisker. Most people feel no pain at all as the needles are inserted. Where the needle has been inserted, you may experience a heaviness, tingling or dull ache. These are all signs that the treatment is working. The needles are retained in the body for 20-40 minutes while you relax on a massage table. After treatment, you may feel energized or you may feel a deep sense of relaxation.
Herbs and Food Therapy
Chinese herbs can help the body regain strength and balance. Taking herbs allows the patient to continue to receive the benefits of treatment from home. Many of the herbs are foods that can be easily incorporated into the diet to create tasty and healing dishes.
Warming Techniques
These techniques warm and invigorate the body and include the use of heat lamps, hot packs and moxibustion. Moxibustion is the application of heat either directly or indirectly to the body via dried herbs (moxa).
Tuina and Acupressure
Both of these techniques use therapeutic touch to treat the body. Tuina is Chinese therapeutic massage that targets specific areas of the body. Acupressure is the stimulation of acupoints with touch, rather than with needles.
